North Shore route to Lahaina
We started the day out with a helicopter tour. We did this last year too. I was ecstatic to find out I was 11 pounds lighter this year than last. This was a tour of Hana and Haleakala. On the way back we stopped at Iao Valley. On the way home we took the North Shore route which was a mountain road, at places only one lane wide.....this made it a little scary when a car was coming the other way....thought we were going to go off the edge a couple times. There were a lot of places to pull over and take pictures....the scenery was great.

Hawaii 2009
Well, we're on our second trip to Maui. This time we went with our friends, Terry & Wendy. We left on February 21 from Chicago in a mild snow storm....amazingly our plane left on time. We flew to Honolulu and then Maui.
We had a three hour layover in Honolulu and got the idea to take a bus to Waikiki Beach and hang out for a while. So we caught Bus 20 for "Waikiki Beach and hotels", not realizing it made all the stops on the way. It took an hour at least to get to the beach. Actually, we never even made it to the beach. We started to realize it was time to head back to the airport so we got off the bus and decided to take a cab back. We saw a concierge in front of a hotel and he got a cab for us, only this cab turned out to be a stretch limo. So, we got back to the airport, had some mai tais, got on the plane and flew to Maui.
This two dollar bus trip to the beach turned into a tour of the city with a $50 limo ride back. Don't ask me why we took a stretch limo back to the hotel...I really don't know.

New Baby in the Family
There was an addition to the family today. Ginny & Garrett had their baby....an 8 lb., 3 oz.; 19 1/2 inches boy. I think they are naming him Cole.

Pearl Harbor and USS Missouri and Waikiki
Today we got up at 3:30 am to catch the plane to Oahu to see Pearl Harbor. We got home around 8:00 pm...it was a long day but we really enjoyed it.
Pearl Harbor is a moving memorial to the soldiers who were killed on December 7, 1941. I would recommend getting the audio tour of this....there's a lot of history that I didn't know (surprise surprise) about this attack. After Pearl Harbor we went out to the USS Missouri where the truce ending WW II was signed.
The bus tour ended with some sight seeing through Honolulu and Waikiki Beach. Next time we come I think I would like to spend about three days in Waikiki. It's much more commercial than Maui but it has a really nice beach...it's more like Chicago if Chicago had an ocean. I would also like to see the other islands. Island hopping is fun.
